Court Appointed Special Advocates of Passaic and Union Counties is seeking members for the Board of Trustees who has a passion to support youth in the child welfare system, combined with the talent to do so!
Since 2007, CASA for Children has been working to keep every child safe from abuse and neglect and lift up their voices.
Our goal is to mobilize all people passionate about children’s well-being, safety, and best interest - to become ambassadors in the greater community. CASA's core mission is to champion children's best interests in the child welfare system.

The CASA Board of Trustees provides organizational leadership and vision, maintains high ethical standards in accordance with the organization’s values, engages in effective planning to respond to the needs of children, and acts as wise stewards of the organization’s resources.

In the last three years, CASA has experienced exponential operational growth, now operating three separate programs serving children in the foster care system. During this time of progress and change, the Board of Trustees has three openings for volunteer members.

Specifically, the organization is seeking people who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Entrepreneurial business people and community members eager to engage their networks and contribute time and energy toward ensuring the well-being of children in need
  • Leaders at agencies in higher education and vocational education are interested in strengthening program partnerships with us and the families we serve
  • Professionals in media, PR, marketing, communications, technology, finance, and project management, willing to lend expertise to increase organizational awareness and support
  • Primary care and public health professionals, as well as leaders in health associations with passion for protecting children at risk of abuse and neglect

The CASA Board of Trustees are required to:

  • Have a strongly held commitment to help provide safe and permanent homes for all children
  • Attend monthly board meetings (virtually and in person)
  • Actively serve on and contribute to one of our committees: Finance/Strategic Planning, Fund Development, Marketing & PR, Governance
  • Advocate for the organizational needs of CASA in the community and among colleagues and peers
  • Learn more about the field of child welfare as well as nonprofit governance
  • Make a personal, charitable contribution to CASA, to the best of their ability

If you want to actively become involved in a cause that will become one of the most worthwhile causes you will associate yourself with throughout your life, please contact us. Board members must commit to attending meetings on the 4th Wednesday of the month and pass a comprehensive background check.

Mission Statement

Court Appointed Special Advocates of Passaic and Union Counties is an independent, non-profit organization that champions the best interests of children involved in the child welfare system. CASA volunteers serve as a child's advocate in court and are committed to ensuring that needed services and assistance are made available to children in need.

Description

Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes.

That's where CASA steps in. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) was created in 1977 to make sure the abuse and neglect these children originally suffered at home doesn't continue as abuse and neglect at the hands of the system. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. The result is that a child has an individual advocate to speak for them in court.

It is the CASA vision to provide a volunteer for each and every abused and neglected child who needs one.
