Child Labor

DCI has volunteer opportunities in the following areas: administrative (office work: data entry, proofreading and e-mailing documents, some telephoning), publicity, fundraising, event planning, researching potential grant sources.

DCI is seeking motivated volunteers and interns to help us with newsletters, editing, and proofreading, replying e-mails, bookkeeping, internet research, IT and computer maintenance, video editing, website development & maintenance, data entry, event planning, fundraising, and project development. Whatever skills you have, we would be grateful to have your help. Any time and any help you can provide will be deeply appreciated and we are confident we can offer you a rewarding volunteer experience at DCI.

Our organization welcomes all. We have volunteers as young as 4th grade and some who are in retirement, along with many high school students. We maintain very flexible working hours so that your work with us will fit into your schedule. You may assist us at our office in Cheshire or right from your home using the internet and Skype.

If you are interested, please complete the volunteer application form at our website at: http://www.distressedchildren.org/volunteer/

If possible, please also attach a short resume when you complete the form. This will be helpful for us to clearly understand your skills and how DCI can use your time most effectively to help underprivileged children.

Volunteering at DCI is a fun and rewarding experience. In addition, as a volunteer, you will receive benefits that can be helpful for your academic or career path. By volunteering with DCI, you can enhance your resume and receive volunteer service hours, a certificate, and a letter of recommendation for a job or higher education. Most importantly, you'll have fun while furthering our efforts against child labor, hunger, poverty, and blindness.

Please visit our website at www.distressedchildren.org for more information about volunteering with DCI. If you have any questions or would like to learn more, please contact us. In addition, please tell your friends and share this message with them if they may also be interested to get involved.

On behalf of the children, I thank you in advance for your support in the fight against poverty, hunger, child labor, and preventable blindness. It is the compassion and generosity of volunteers like you that makes DCI's work possible and helps us meet our goals. Together we can create a better world for children.

With sincere gratitude and warmest thanks,

Mission Statement

Distressed Children & Infants International is a U.S.-based International non-profit child rights organization established at Yale University in 2003 with a mission to prevent child labor and blindness worldwide. DCI is committed to protecting the rights of children, stopping child labor, preventing blindness, promoting inclusion efforts for the disabled and lifting distressed children in developing nations out of poverty and hunger by providing education, healthcare, vision care, skill training, and family support. In keeping with our motto of "Children Helping Children," we involve American youth in all our activities and connect them to less fortunate children in other countries. By participating in DCI's mission, young people learn the critical challenges faced by some other children in the world and are called to service on their behalf, ultimately growing into responsible global citizens and future leaders. Description

Distressed Children and Infants International (DCI), is a nonprofit child rights organization based in Cheshire, CT. It was founded in 2005 to improve the socio-economic, educational, and health conditions of underprivileged children in the United States and worldwide. Most of us take for granted the basic necessities of life: food, water, shelter, health, education, and family. But there are millions of children in the world who lack these essential things. DCI's goal is to help provide these necessities to impoverished children throughout the world. At DCI, we have chosen sponsorship as the base program for helping children in developing countries because we have found that sponsorship is the most effective way to provide stable, long-term, ongoing services to the children and the families we serve. DCI also works with the families and communities of its sponsored children to develop sustainable income-generating activities for long-term prosperity.
