Description
Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers are on-call and respond to disasters within their community. The most common disaster these members respond to are residential fires, but volunteers also respond to tornadoes, floods, and other local disasters. Volunteers assist the victims by providing support and immediate needs like shelter, food, and clothing. Training is provided free of charge to interested volunteers.

- * Ability to relate and communicate well with disaster clients, officials, and other Red Cross workers * Willingness to work under adverse conditions * Ability to record information clearly, accurately, and thoroughly * Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds and lifestyles * Reliable transportation available * Regular commitment of availability on the schedule of approximately 12 hours per week, available to respond during those time frames * One year minimum commitment * Ability to attend a minimum of 40 hours per year of activity including response, meetings, exercises, trainings, and preparedness activities
