The Falls Prevention Program is designed to help older adults 60 years of age and older reduce their fear of falling through group discussion, problem-solving strategies and increasing the physical activity levels of those who have concerns about falls. The class consists of eight two-hour sessions.

Would you like to learn how to coach A Matter of Balance falls prevention class within your community? No teaching experience necessary. We provide free 8-hour coach training and materials - You provide the time and desire to work with our seniors in preventing falls. For a complete job description,

A Matter of Balance falls prevention class consists of eight, 2-hour sessions taught twice a week for four weeks, or once a week for eight weeks. Mission Statement

The Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area provides quality services to support and advocate for the health, safety, and well-being of the older individual in the Capital Region. Serving Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Travis and Williamson Counties.

Description

Services:

Information & Referral Assistance: Unbiased information about regionwide resources; assistance in determining next steps in finding help.

Benefits Counseling: Information and counseling about the many government benefits programs; assistance to understand and navigate benefits eligibility. Available to an individual of any age who is Medicare eligible.

Ombudsman Program: Specially trained and certified, the Ombudsman staff develops positive relationships with residents and facility staff to ensure that issues are addressed, and that residents' rights are preserved.

Care Coordination: Assessment of needs and resources by a Care Coordinator to link clients over sixty to in-home resources who have recently been hospitalized or suffered a health care crisis, have a mild to moderate impairment, or a temporarty severe impairment.

Caregiver Support: Support for family members who are caring for older individuals: Assistance in making a long-range caregiving plan; Education; Kinship Care- Grandparents or other non-parent relatives age 55+ with formal or informal custody of a relative child age 18 years or younger.

Health & Wellness Promotion: Promotes and assists in healthy aging, such as physical activity and fall prevention, with the goal of supporting the independence of older individuals.

All services are short-tem and are provided at no cost.
