USO El Paso Center Volunteers are the key to Center operations.

Volunteers perform the following duties during a typical shift:

  • Assist visitors sign-in and check IDs
  • Dispense snacks and beverage cups
  • Issue games, movies, cell phones, and equipment
  • Manage the WiFi password for visitor laptops
  • Implement waiting lists and time limits during busy hours
  • File sign-in and sign-out sheets
  • Restock snacks, ice, and soda syrup as needed
  • Answer the Center telephone and take messages for USO staff
  • Provide information and referral to visitors and callers
  • Give tours to first-time visitors
  • Prepare Center for closing

Volunteers may assist with additional tasks using their special skills

  • Writing thank you notes to donors and community partners
  • Planning and coordinating special events
  • Running errands and picking up supplies and donations
  • Contacting potential donors
  • Creating scrapbooks of USO activities
  • Tallying USO statistical information and entering in spreadsheets
  • Troubleshooting computer, XBOX, electronics, and networking issues
  • Speaking to community groups about supporting the USO
  • Briefing military units about USO programs
  • Manning booths at information fairs
  • Recording Troops for the United Through Reading Military Program
  • Coordinating drives for books, toiletries, snack foods, and more

Description

About the USO:

For 70 years, the USO has been providing morale and recreational-type services to U.S. military personnel and their families. The USO will support US troops and their families wherever they serve. Across the United States and around the world, the American military knows that the USO is there for them. The USO is a nonprofit, charitable organization, relying on the generosity of the American people to support its programs and services. The USO operates more than 160 centers and serves over 5.6 million military personnel and their families around the world. For more information about the USO please visit www.uso.org.

USO El Paso:

USO El Paso has a state-of-the-art Center on Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. Here at USO El Paso, we extend a touch of home to the military stationed in and just passing thru the El Paso area. The Center provides complimentary snacks and beverages at the Snack Bar, computers and Internet, XBOX stations, pool tables, and Big-screen TVs for watching movies and sporting events. Volunteers enable the USO to provide the best possible encouragement to service members and their families with their commitment to supporting the Troops by helping them access USO programs and services.

The USO El Paso Centers are open Monday-Friday from 11:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 12:00-6:00 p.m. We need volunteers to staff the center during late morning, afternoon, evenings and weekends. Volunteers also assist us implement a variety of programs and special events throughout the year to include following examples:

· Mobile Canteen (supports Troops at training ranges and remote areas)

· Deployment and Welcome Home Support

· Recreational Activities for Troops and their families

· United Through Reading (connecting Troops to their children by videoing them reading books aloud)

· Wounded Warrior Programs (help ease the burdens of Wounded Warriors)

· Children's festivals

· Concerts and Entertainment Events

In addition to events throughout El Paso and Ft. Bliss, we also support events at White Sands Missile Range, McGregor Range, Oro Grande, and Holloman Air Force Base.

USO volunteers may donate their time and talents weekly, monthly, or during special events.
