Description
Assist with riding classes and horse care
general responsibilities include:
- Bring in horses from the pasture as needed
- Help our riders to groom and tack their horses
- Assist the instructor during the mounting process
- Lead the horse and rider OR walk beside a mounted rider
- Clean stalls, tack room, & barn area
- Feed and water horses
Work "Behind the Scenes" with administrative and other activities
- Enter computer data
- Assist with mailings
- Make telephone calls
Help with farm work and property management
- Mow grass
- Operate weed-eater
- Assist with landscaping work
- Build and repair fences
- Utilize individual skills such as carpentry, plumbing, etc.
- Assist with proper maintenance of pastures
Skills
- Horse Leader or Sidewalker: Volunteers interested in assisting in riding classes need to be in generally good health and able to walk for 30 minutes or more during class, as well as, jog for short distances while the horse trots. Volunteers commit to about 90minutes on the same time and day each week. There is a wide-range of class days/times to choose from.
