Calling all peacemakers! This fun, interactive workshop by the Alternatives to Violence Project uses participants' life experiences, hands-on exercises and playful games to explore how to respond positively in conflict situations where frustration and anger can lead to hostility. It is also a first step in training to lead peace programs in your community.

This AVP workshop focuses on:

  • Understanding why conflict happens
  • Managing strong feelings such as anger and fear
  • Building healthy relationships with others
  • Communicating well in difficult situations
  • Being true to yourself while respecting others
When: June 7-8 and 14-15, 2024 (By signing up you agree to attend all four sessions.)
  • Friday, June 7: 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 8: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Friday, June 14: 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 15: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Where: Manasquan Quaker Meeting, 2257 Meetinghouse Rd (off Rte. 35 south), Manasquan, NJ 08736

How much: A suggested donation of $50 to $100 covers materials, lunch each Saturday, and snacks. However, no one is turned away if they can't pay.

Space is limited. Registration deadline is Saturday, June 1st.

Who: Program facilitators have been trained by the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP). They lead workshops at community and prison locations in New Jersey.

The Alternatives to Violence Project-New jersey (AVPNJ) is:

  • An experiential program, helping people change their lives.
  • A community program, offering a new approach for community groups, social service agencies, schools, youth organizations and all who would like to participate.
  • A prison program, helping inmates learn new skills and attitudes that lead to fulfilling and crime-free lives.
AVP builds upon a spiritual base of respect and caring for self and others. Though founded by Quakers, AVP draws participants and trainers from all religions, races, sexual identity, and walks of life.
