Being Alive's newest program that needs volunteers is called the Buddy Program.
Why: The Buddy Program is a one-on-one support system for our clients. The volunteers offer support by spending time with our clients, such as driving them to appointments or socializing.
Who: At Being Alive, we are committed to making a positive impact in the lives of those affected by HIV/AIDS by providing crucial support, education, and resources. We believe every individual deserves compassionate care and understanding, and we seek passionate volunteers to join us in this mission.
What to Expect:
The buddy volunteer is the primary contact between a client and Being Alive. The buddy may serve as a compassionate listener, peer counselor, advocate, helper, or a combination. Buddies are assigned to clients based on their needs.
Provide the client with additional support to help solve the problems of daily life: shopping, transportation to appointments, companionship, listening, etc. The buddy and client decide together on the best use of their time.
Assess client needs and work with the program coordinator and Being Alive staff to refer clients to other appropriate services in the community.
Act as the liaison between the client and Being Alive. Contact the program coordinator whenever special needs arise.
What's Required:
Be available to meet your client up to four times per month.
Each buddy will complete a training and evaluation program before being assigned to a client.
There is ongoing supervision and continuing education for those selected as buddies.
Submit activity notes and mileage for reimbursement electronically or by mail.
