ORGANIZATION: Wildlife Care Association

Wildlife Care Association has a multitude of different volunteer opportunities for you to participate in! Below is a list of our most needed volunteer positions and a brief description of each. If any of them interest you, please do not hesitate to apply! You can also volunteer in more than one position if you would like.

Intake - this volunteer is the first person the public sees when bringing in injured, orphaned, or sick wildlife to us. They are responsible for bringing the animal back to the technicians, getting a correct identification of it, and inputting it into our computer system. They also help answer any questions the public may have. You must be 16 years or older for this volunteer position.

Animal Care - this volunteer helps Wildlife Technicians around the facility. This can include cleaning enclosures, doing dishes or laundry, prepping wildlife meals, feeding baby mammals or birds, assisting with triaging animals, and much more. You must be 18 years or older to do anything related to the animals, and 16 years or older to help with the cleaning portion of this position.

Hotline - hotline volunteers usually work from home or double up this shift with an intake shift. Hotline volunteers are responsible for checking our hotline voicemail throughout their designated time slot, writing down caller information and what they are calling for, and returning calls to rescuers with correct information.

Transport - transport volunteers are "on call" volunteers. This means that if we have an animal we need taken to a vet, taken to another rehabilitation facility, or picked up from somewhere, we will call you! We also ask transport volunteers to pick up pre-ordered groceries as well for the facility. Transport volunteers can also be trained to do releases of birds and mammals.

About Wildlife Care Association

Mission Statement

Wildlife Care Association, Inc. is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of local wildlife. WCA is committed to educating and instructing the community in the respect, appreciation, and care of local wildlife. WCA is pledged to the management and preservation of wildlife habitat.

Description

Wildlife Care Association is a non-profit organization based out of McClellan, California (Sacramento area) that is permitted by the California Department of Fish and Game and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to care for wildlife. WCA is open year round, seven days a week including most holidays.

Concerned citizens and local agencies bring us thousands of sick, injured, or orphaned wild animals each year. WCA provides emergency and on going medical services to the animals in our care with the goal of releasing them back into the wild. The staff at Wildlife Care Association relies on volunteers to accomplish this. WCA provides training for all volunteer positions. Volunteers are encouraged to expand their knowledge by attending training opportunities and classes.

WCA also provides many educational opportunities to the local Sacramento community. WCA offers live animal presentations to youth groups and other organizations to educate our community about local wildlife.

WCA is always looking for new volunteers to join our ranks. Our greatest need for volunteers comes during the spring and summer months when many local animals are breeding. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit our website at www.wildlifecareassociation.com and complete a volunteer application found under the "Help WCA" tab at the top of the page.
