The Evergreen Forum Program, hosted through the Center for Modern Aging Princeton (formally Princeton Senior Resource Center), is a dynamic intellectual haven that invites passionate individuals to join us as course leaders for our Fall 2024 semester teaching classes based on passions or interest areas for our participants (over the age of 55). Since its inception in 2001, Evergreen Forum has grown into a vibrant community of hundreds of participants taking courses every semester.

As a participant-driven initiative, Evergreen Forum welcomes instructors to tailor their teaching experience to their own personal style and passions:

  • Course Topics: Our courses explore a plethora of academic subjects spanning literature, science, the arts, politics, music, history, and beyond. Have an idea? We're all ears!
  • Course Format: Choose from teaching in-person, virtually via Zoom, or in a hybrid format, with tech support provided by CMAP staff.
  • Course Type: Facilitate discussion-based classes, straight lectures, or a mix of both catering to your personal teaching style.
  • Timing: Enjoy flexibility in scheduling, with courses running anywhere from 3 to 9 weeks depending on the course leader’s preference, held during Fall (September-November) and/or Spring (March-April) semesters.
  • Language: We're considering expanding our offerings to include courses in various languages - share your academic expertise by teaching in Spanish, French, Mandarin, or language of your choice! At this time, we are not able to offer classes on learning to speak languages.

What we seek in potential course leaders:

Evergreen Forum thrives on the passion and expertise of volunteer instructors. While this is a non-compensated opportunity, the joy of engaging with eager life-long learners fuels many of our course leader’s semester after semester. Plus? No grading and papers to evaluate! Key criteria include:

  • Teaching Background: While experience in a classroom setting is helpful, we welcome course leaders from a variety of professional backgrounds.
  • Subject Expertise: Demonstrate knowledge or educational background in your chosen course topic.
  • Day time availability: Evergreen Forum courses take place during the traditional business hours of Monday-Friday 10:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. due to the nature of our center. While we are looking into expanding into evening and weekend hours in the future, right now we cannot accommodate those requests.

For examples of the types of classes we have offered in the past, please see our most recent brochure, here.
