The International Rescue Committee in Salt Lake City’s (IRC SLC) Success Coaching & Mentoring (SCM) program is rooted in its Social Emotional Asset Development (SEAD) framework that develops social and life skills.

The goal of the Success Coaching & Mentorship is to help recently arrived refugee and immigrant young adults (ages 15-24) adapt successfully to life in Salt Lake City while providing them the tools and opportunities they need to grow in their academics, regulate emotions, and expand their social emotional skills. The Success Coaching & Mentor will help refugee students reach their goals by providing 1:1 mentorship for at least 2 hours a month for a duration of at least 9-months. Coaches also support youth’s and/or caregivers' involvement in a variety of workshops and other educational opportunities provided by IRC SLC.

About International Rescue Committee

Mission Statement

The International Rescue Committee serves refugees and communities victimized by oppression or violent conflict worldwide. Founded in 1933, the IRC is committed to freedom, human dignity, and self-reliance. This commitment is expressed in emergency relief, protection of human rights, post-conflict development, resettlement assistance, and advocacy.

Description

Each year, thousands of refugees are invited by the U.S. government to seek safety and freedom. Forced to flee conflict or persecution, many refugees have survived against incredible odds. Refugees step off the plane with next to nothing but their dignity, hope, and determination. In Salt Lake City, the IRC helps approximately 500 refugees each year to rebuild their lives.
