Summary
Alternatives to Violence Project - Colorado (AVP-Colorado) is dedicated to empowering people in communities and within the criminal justice system in Colorado to make positive life changes for the betterment of themselves, their families, and the community at large. The organization offers workshops for residents of Colorado prisons (and communities) dealing in themes of nonviolence, communication, affirmation and more.
AVP-Colorado is looking for a volunteer seeking to build or expand their grant writing skills. This is an unpaid, volunteer position. AVP-Colorado is willing to work with volunteers’ schedules and availability.
Desired Skills/Interests
- Strong persuasive writing skills
- Grant writing experience preferred, but not necessary
- Research skills
- Grant research experience preferred, but not necessary
- An interest in criminal justice with a focus on rehabilitation and reducing recidivism
- Strong organizational skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite
Volunteer Description/Activities
- Work with board members to seek out grant opportunities for which our organization qualifies
- Gather necessary documents for grant application
- Write strong grant proposal, collaborating with AVP-Colorado staff and board members as necessary to provide strategic direction or details
- Provide all required application documentation in advance of deadlines

Description
For more than thirty years, AVP Colorado, formerly the New Foundations Nonviolence Center, has helped people in in communities and in prisons to transform their lives. Through Alternatives to Violence workshops, we give people the tools they can use to learn new ways to communicate and resolve conflict without resorting to manipulation, coercion, or violence.
