Circles is a national initiative that works with local individuals and families to achieve financial stability. No lasting change happens without relationships. Circles believe that through relationships, families in poverty through support will be enabled to move forward out of poverty.
We do this through a goal-based effort which focuses on educational, employment, and financially related goals. Our participants meet weekly with community volunteers to enjoy a meal together, review goals, and strengthen relationships. Families in poverty can be given the support they need to make necessary changes. Participants (called Circle Leaders) begin by attending a 12-week class where they learn life skills and make a plan for reaching economic stability. After completing the class they are assigned 1-3 long-term volunteers (called Allies) from higher economic backgrounds who offer support, advice, and increase the Circle Leader’s social capital. Participants come together once a week to eat dinner, learn, and work on their plans for self-reliance. Over time, their incomes improve, and they decrease their debt and public assistance. Site/Time: Heber on Thursdays 5:45 p.m. - 8:00p.m. * Minimum 12-month commitment * $30 background check Dinner and childcare are provided to all volunteers and their families each week.
