Bring your well behaved pets along and visit residents at Legacy Post Acute Care in Martinez
Activity staff will greet you and accompany you as you allow animal loving lonely residents to meet and pet your dog ( or cat or ...) If you have received Pet therapy certificaiton, even better but not required.
Please have a TB test, current within 90 days. Legacy's Activity Director will provide volunteer paperwork and a background check may be part of the oritentation and volunteer acceptance process.
IMPORTANT: LITA OF CONTRA COSTA LIABILITY INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER TO PET RELATED ACCIDENTS OR INCIDENTS THAT MAY HAPPEN AT A CARE FACILITY, RESULTING IN DAMAGE OR INJURY. ASK THE FACILITY IF YOU DO NOT CARRY INSURANCE THAT COVERS SUCH DAMAGE OR INJURIES CAUSED BY YOUR ANIMAL

"Love Is The Answer" LITA of Contra Costa (since 1980) involves community members of all ages, educating and supporting youth, students families and aspiring artsts to be Volunteers to fulfill our Mission to imporve qualiaty of life for senior & disabled persons living full time in nursing care as well as memory care and assisted living facilities in Contra Costa County.
Description
LITA of CC serves skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, primarily in Contra Costa County. LITA is non-sectarian. There is no charge for LITA volunteer services.
MUSIC AWAKENINGS: LITA has long supported the miracle of Music to enhance healing & joy. Volunteers program tablets and phones especially for an individual patient (who may have speech, sight or social disabilities) with access to of music and movies from their prime of life stimulate golden memories, reducing stress, insomnia , agitation depression and alleviating sundowning. Spontaneously singing along with beloved lyrics, patients have created new pathways torestore speech.
LITA of Contra Costa encourages Intergeneration Appreciation, with events and holiday or project visits for groups from preschool through High School and College. Family visits are also encouraged and supported within this Love Is The Answer volunteer program.
Arts Volunteers at all ages & levels of perfecting audio/visual, music, dance, acting, poetry and other performing & fine arts, share these gifts with seniors in continuing care. Our most popular LITA program, suspended during covid and still not back was Pet Visitors bringing gentle dogs, cats, turtles birds. - Your pet visit schedule is worked out with Faccility Activity Director and needs to be honored. One hour once a week is ideal. If you can visit twice a month, even that would be greatly appreciated. Consistency is highly valued !
- First you will have a meeting with Activity Director or social services director Vanessa Castaneda to evaluate your pet for this mission. Check in at reception each visit, sign in and wait for staff to met you for your social tour.
