The primary role of a State Director is to act as the liaison between their respective state and Guardian Angels for Soldier's Pet (National organization) by building and leading a volunteer management / coordination team in various aspects including, but not limited to:
- Report to a Regional Director or the Organization's designated representative (when a Regional Director not in place).
- Promote the Organization's mission in getting the word out to those the volunteer knows or feel would be interested in what we do (individuals, businesses, other groups/organizations, etc.).
- Build and manage a volunteer management team within their state to accomplish the administrative and coordination efforts of Guardian Angels for Soldier's Pet.
- Assist in recruiting potential foster home caregivers within the state
- Assist with foster home coordination and pet placement efforts within their respective state.
- Establish and maintain communication with the potential foster homes and those foster homes (Guardian Angels) fostering a specific pet(s) through the Organization.
- Establish a working relationship with state/local media, military groups (such as Unit Leaders and Family Readiness Groups), other state veteran organizations (i.e., VFW, DAV, Purple Heart, American Legion, military retiree associations), and other groups (i.e., Elks, Rotary, Lions, etc.) to assist in our mission. Collaborates with State Communication Coordinator (if in place) and national Communications Director.
- Maintain tracking workbooks (provided by the Organization) related to potential foster homes, MSM pet submissions, fostered pets, missions' accomplished (pets reunited with owner), approved volunteer management team, and other contacts within their state (media, military, and other groups/organizations).
- Provide "Monthly Activity Report" for their area of responsibility summarizing pet placements, reunions, submissions closed, FHs requesting to be dropped, and other activities performed on behalf of Guardian Angels for Soldier's Pet.
State Directors already in place in the following locations: Arizona, Washington DC, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Skills
- Project Management: Be a self-starter, has excellent organizational, interpersonal, and management skills, plus able to work independently and as a "team" player.
- Technology: Comfortable using and access to MS office (such as Word, Excel), communicate via the internet, phone calls, and email.
