A hospice volunteer is someone who wishes to make a difference in the lives of the terminally ill by contributing directly or indirectly to the services provided by hospice care. Volunteers provide emotional support and practical assistance that enhances the comfort and quality of life for patients. their families and loved ones. These services can include being available for companionship, listening or simply "being there" for a patient, as well as running errands and preparing meals.

Hospice volunteers often say their experience is personally rewarding and emotionally meaningful to help those in need at a critical point in their lives. Your volunteer work is significant and can make a positive impact in the quality of others' lives.

As a hospice volunteer, you may be asked to: listen and support the patient and family; read or sit with a patient for short periods of time; prepare meals; write letters; observe and report to the hospice care team; run errands; act as a liaison between hospice staff, the patient and family; check on patient and family by telephone; assist with clerical office task; support community events life educational offerings, health fairs or fundraising.

Our interdisciplinary hospice team of nurses, social workers, chaplains, counselors and trained volunteers offers the support patients and families need in the comfort and privacy of their home. Counseling and bereavement support services are available to families before and after a patient’s death. Our hospice program is about living, loving and making everyday count.
