When you teach someone to read, you change their life. The ability to read, write and speak the English language gives one access to information, independence, communication, and so much more. Adults who cannot read do not have this access, and the world remains closed to them. Overcoming a literacy limitation open up new doors for educational, career and financial attainment.
We count on the steady support and encouragement of dedicated tutors to help students reach their reading, education and career goals. In our Community Classrooms, tutors are trained to work with students individually or in small groups on a variety of activities to increase skills and knowledge. Using a student-centered curriculum, volunteers guide students in mastering the mechanics of reading to help them reach personal levels of success.
