This position is for an independent contractor and will be compensated as such. The Living History Performer will assist Museum staff during school field trips, primarily providing groups of children with an educational and artistic performance that provides information on the Oregon Trail and/or life in 19 th century Tacoma.

-Provide historical interpretation engaging students by using artifacts, storytelling, music, and/or dramatic performance to help school groups imagine daily life in the past. Performers may choose to portray various people and professions related to the Oregon Trail and/or historical residents of Tacoma.

-Manage time and class interaction responsibly. Most elementary students who visit the museum are in 3rd or 4th grade. Performances are generally 50-minutes each for groups of 20-50 students, plus their teachers and chaperones. Between one and three performances may be scheduled on the same day.

-Arrive in a timely manner for set up, remain for scheduled performance time, and clean up any items at the end of each field trip. Restore the performance space to its original condition and configuration following each field trip.

Description

The Job Carr Cabin Museum is a replica of Job Carr's log cabin, originally built in 1864/65, as the first permanent non-native residence in Tacoma. The Museum houses interpretive historical displays and artifacts from Tacoma's early days. Educational history programs and tours are provided for school children, educators, history buffs, community residents and visitors to our city.
