Last spring student volunteers assisted LITA to bring in containers and potting soil and construc raised beds.
For 2024, LITA accepted the invitation to launch this project for residents at Tampico Health Care Center in Walnunt Creek. Volunteers will visit for resident fiestivities and participate in planting for fun.

Please have a TB test, current within 90 days. Activity Director at Tampico Terrace in Walnut Creek Creek will provide volunteer paperwork and background check, as well as taking you to a nurse to get a free TB test which is all part of the orientation and volunteer acceptance process.

For this new locations LITA is seeking local garden volunteers for a weekly or at the least bi-monthly garden visit thtoese locations. Bring your green thumb and let’s have some fun. LITA Director Victoria Ryan is manager and overall garden planner, but we hope to find enthusiastic sociable regular volunteers who love to garden and make new friends at weekly patio garden visits throughout the growing season.

LITA would also welcome enthusiastic, knowledgeable gardeners to look in on our established gardens and assist the resident gardeners at Legacy Nursing and Rehab and Pittsburg Skilled Nursing Center, Pleasnt Hill Post Acute Care in Pleasant HIll and Greenridge Senior Care in El Sobrante

"Love Is The Answer" LITA of Contra Costa (since 1980) involves community members of all ages, educating and supporting youth, students families and aspiring artsts to be Volunteers to fulfill our Mission to imporve qualiaty of life for senior & disabled persons living full time in nursing care as well as memory care and assisted living facilities in Contra Costa County.

Description

LITA of CC serves skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, primarily in Contra Costa County. LITA is non-sectarian. There is no charge for LITA volunteer services.

MUSIC AWAKENINGS: LITA has long supported the miracle of Music to enhance healing & joy. Volunteers program tablets and phones especially for an individual patient (who may have speech, sight or social disabilities) with access to of music and movies from their prime of life stimulate golden memories, reducing stress, insomnia , agitation depression and alleviating sundowning. Spontaneously singing along with beloved lyrics, patients have created new pathways torestore speech.

LITA of Contra Costa encourages Intergeneration Appreciation, with events and holiday or project visits for groups from preschool through High School and College. Family visits are also encouraged and supported within this Love Is The Answer volunteer program.

Arts Volunteers at all ages & levels of perfecting audio/visual, music, dance, acting, poetry and other performing & fine arts, share these gifts with seniors in continuing care. Our most popular LITA program, suspended during covid and still not back was Pet Visitors bringing gentle dogs, cats, turtles birds.   • Garden sessions are usually about one hour, 11 am or 2pm, and are at least once a week, during the warmer weather as seedlings start. Activity staff and occasional substitute garden volunteers can relieve any primary LITA gardener as needed.
  • This project is not room to room visits inside the care facility. Sign in at reception may require masking to get to the open air garden. LITA staff or volunteer or post accute care facility Activity Staff will always be present.
