Here at the Latimer House, we have many different opportunities for volunteers. From being a docent, curating our social media, providing administrative support, assisting with special events, and conducting research in our archives, we have a position that fits your experience and interests.

Mission Statement

The Lower Cape Fear Historical Society, Inc. (LCFHS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to the preservation and promotion of the history of the Lower Cape Fear region since 1956. The Society concentrates on preserving records and disseminating knowledge of local history.

Description

LCFHS has led the restoration and exhibition of the Latimer House, a noteworthy example of Victorian Italianate Revival architecture, since 1963. Within the walls of Latimer, LCFHS leads tours, educational programs and exhibits, and special events. The Latimer House is also home to our comprehensive collection of over 600 artifacts and an extensive archive and library. Since October 1957, LCFHS also publishes pathbreaking historical research in the LCFHS Bulletin.
