Next training dates March 22,27,and 29. An application is available on the RIM web-site: www.r-i-m.net

Spiritual Care Givers are from many cultures, speak many languages, and visit immigration detainees to listen. Often it is not possible to offer anything but listening, but this shows a person that he or she has not been forgotten.

Spiritual Care Givers receive a comprehensive training that includes active listening skills, self care, mental health issues, trauma, spiritual resources, and small group discussion and role play. Volunteers commit to a year of service of two evenings per month: one to visit detainees in the prison (in Boston) and one to attend a team-building support meeting (in Malden--T accessible).

Please contact us for more information and an application. Also, see more information on our Web site.

Mission Statement

Building Community with Uprooted People to Serve the Common Good.

Description

RIM is an Interfaith, community-based organization that was founded in 1986. RIM's programs reflect the mission: "Building Community with Uprooted People to Serve the Common Good." At the heart of RIM's 3 major programs is a corps of dedicated volunteers who bring clients into relationships with their communities. These programs include: community-based resettlement of asylum seekers; job preparation through English and computer classes; and Spiritual Care Givers who provide chaplaincy services to immigrant detainees. All programs rest upon a strong Case Management plan and offer "new life and hope to uprooted people". As one client summed it up, "You took me from nowhere to somewhere."
