6 for 6 Volunteer Internship Program 6 for 6 Volunteer Interns serve Transitions Supportive Care & Big Bend Hospice patients and families through weekly volunteer support​ companionship and respite visits. Volunteer Interns gain new experiences engaging with patients and caregivers, learning about serious and terminal illnesses, palliative care, bedside manner, and active listening while earning 3 internship-specific experiential benefits. This team serves primarily in patients' private residences but has the option to serve some hours in the Dozier House and facilities.

Volunteer Internship Requirements:

  • Availability to volunteer 6 hours per week for 6 months​ (130 hours minimum​)
    • This factors in any school breaks as needed
  • Complete online application
  • Complete online orientation & training
  • Complete background check & TB test

Eligibility:

  • 18 years or older
  • Driver’s License and Auto Insurance with reliable transportation
  • Has not lost a loved one in the last 13 months

Benefits:

3 internship-specific experiential benefits designed for those seeking exposure to the healthcare field, after completing approximately 130 hours:

  1. Attend 2 Interdisciplinary Team Meetings
  2. Q&A with a Hospice Physician
