Volunteer Center of Southern Arizona Community-based Volunteer Development Project Position Title: Experience Corps Program Coordinator, AmeriCorps* VISTA Position Description The VISTA project goals are to develop replicable volunteer management programs to build capacity and resiliency of our schools and community organizations in Southern Arizona so that they can effectively engage volunteers to meet the critical needs in our society with particular emphasis on disaster preparedness, literacy, leadership, and youth development. The VISTA member will serve as a catalyst for volunteer engagement, program effectiveness, partnership and organizational development for the Experience Corps program. The VISTA member will work in conjunction with a team of VISTA members working with Experience Corps and each member will have a particular initiative area-recruitment, leadership, or development/training. Primary Duties/Responsibilities · Develop and implement effective volunteer management processes and procedures to recruit, orient, train, support, and recognize Experience Corps members. · Design and implement a volunteer recruitment strategy using past 'best practices' and future 'next practices'. · Design and maintain databases to support the volunteer management of Experience Corps. · Work to streamline recruitment, orientation, training, and recognition processes. · Plan and coordinate monthly team meetings with Experience Corps members at each participating school. · Maintain and enhance monthly Experience Corps newsletter. · Facilitate regular meetings/trainings with the school volunteer coordinators and the Experience Corps Team Leaders. · Develop and coordinate a comprehensive training program for the Experience Corps program. · Design and implement a Leadership Institute for Experience Corps members, especially Team Leaders. · Research, identify, and obtain funding and in-kind resources to enhance and sustain the Experience Corps program including writing and submitting grant proposals. · Research new Experience Corps initiative areas: family involvement, mentoring, younger/older children. · Assist with day-to-day program coordination in conjunction with other VISTA members and the Project Director. · Participate in regular meetings, trainings, and service projects with other VISTA members coordinated by the VISTA Leader. - Comfort with team facilitation, training and management roles.
- Background in human resources, project management, marketing, public relations a plus.
- Strong desire to dedicate full year of service.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Car necessary.
- Full-time (40 hours a week) without outside commitments.
- One full year of service.
- Living allowance ($10,380): VISTA members earn a small allowance that basically brings them to poverty-level wages. One of the founding principles of VISTA is for members to live at the economic level of the communities that they are serving in order to be attuned to the challenges of poverty.
