Are you passionate about education? Would you like to support Masa in ensuring scholars excel academically, socially, and emotionally? Become a volunteer tutor and help make a difference in a child's life! By helping out students you can be part of transforming communities through education.

About MAP:
Masa's After school program also known as MAP focuses on providing scholars in K-8th grade with homework help and academic support in the areas of most need in a safe and nurturing environment. We rely heavily on volunteers to provide ongoing tutoring and mentoring to help scholars improve their academic performance, learning engagement and overall confidence. Based on the individual needs of the scholars, pairings can be between one to three students per tutor. Students and tutors are matched based on interest and availability.

Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 5 to 7pm

Program Requirements:
- Some experience in tutoring, education, or child development field preferred but not required
- Applicants must be 16 years old & up
- Able to volunteer at least 1x a week (2 hrs) but preferably 2x a week (4 hrs) for 4-6 months
- Attend mandatory orientation and trainings
- Adhere to in-person health & safety policies COVID-19 Vaccination and mask-use are required

The mission of Masa is to promote educational attainment, committed leadership and civic engagement among underserved students living in New York City with a particular focus on those of Mexican descent. Through a variety of civic and educational partnerships, Masa provides positive guidance and support for underserved youth and their families. We encourage program participants to strive to their fullest potential by setting and achieving academic goals in our tutoring and mentoring program. Furthermore, by fostering cultural and civic awareness, we empower a future generation of active and involved citizens.

Description

Masa provides after-school and mentorship services to students of Mexican descent living in or near the South Bronx. The organization relies heavily on the work of volunteers to serve the varied needs of students involved in the program.

  • We would love for our volunteers to commit at least 4-6 months and preferably for the entire duration of the program (September- June). We do make the exception to accept volunteers for the first half of the semester (September - December)
