Comfort to our patients

We are seeking volunteers that can make fidget blankets for our hospice patients with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia. A fidget blanket is a lap-size quilt that provides sensory stimulation for patients that are in need of a way to alleviate agitation and provide a sense of calmness. These blankets typically have zippers, buttons, beads, and other things to keep their hands busy. There are many benefits of fidget blankets for patients, including keeping them calm during periods of anxiety or restlessness.

No formal training is needed, you can simply make the blankets at home and drop them off at our office or ship them to us. There is no minimum, we will take just one or as many as you are willing to make and we then donate them to our patients! The cost of the material and shipping is the responsibility of the volunteer, which ProMedica Hospice appreciates.

Mission Statement

Our Mission is to improve your health and well-being.

Description

Heartland Hospice volunteers offer support, companionship and practical, compassionate help. Some interact directly with patients and families. Others prefer to work behind the scenes in the office setting. As a volunteer, you help determine which tasks you’re best suited to perform. The tasks of volunteers include:

  • Helping with office support tasks at the agency
  • Running errands for patients and families
  • Staying with patients so family members can get a much-needed rest
  • Reading, or providing a comforting touch
  • Playing or singing soothing music to patients
  • Keeping vigil with patients in their final hours

These and other tasks are why hospice volunteers are such an essential part of the Heartland experience.
