Mission Statement

At Evercare(tm) Hospice & Palliative Care, we provide compassionate individualized end of life services to patients and families.

Description

Hospice is personal care that focuses on pain control and symptom management, rather than cure-oriented treatments. Typically, a hospice patient has a life expectancy of weeks or a few months. Hospice includes physical, spiritual and emotional care for patients and their families and is tailored to a patient's needs and preferences.

Knitters, crocheters, quilters, other craftspersons are needed to create lab-robes and prayer shawls for hospice patients. The Evercare Hospice Volunteer Coordinator will come talk with any groups interested in this project or you are welcome to send anything you have. Any pattern you already have is acceptable or contact Evercare Hospice for some sample patterns.

Guidelines for laprobes:

  • washable - not wool, cotton or linen if knitted or crocheted
  • colorful and comforting.
  • small in size - approximately 36" x 48" - so they are suitable for patients in wheelchairs.
  • Can be knitted, crocheted, quilted or cut from polar fleece
  • Prayer shawls should be longer - about 3' x 5'

The lap robes and pillows provide comfort for the patients as well as bright bits of color for their rooms. The pillows are also used to support patient's arms and heads in their wheelchairs or in bed.
