VITAS Innovative Hospice Care offers two spiritual care volunteer programs: Spiritual Care Volunteers - We seek warm, caring people interested in offering care within a particular religious tradition or visits to those who have similar religious views and need additional spiritual support. Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) - VITAS also offers this specialized educational program for those who seek to deepen their skills in spiritual care at the end of life. This program is a masters-degree level educational experience accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (www.acpe.edu). Volunteers will be oriented to function as the chaplain for patients and families at the end of life. They will be supported in learning how to understand themselves and the strengths and challenges they bring to this ministry. They will learn to work with diverse faith groups responsibly. They will learn how to reflect upon experience and form understandings of relationship within their own faith and that of others. They will integrate their personal history and spiritual journey with their pastoral practice. Orientation as a patient care volunteer is the first step for most of our volunteers. Training is provided free of charge.
