To tutor a Basic Literacy adult learner to help him/her acquire basic literacy skills and to apply those skills in meeting self-identified reading goals. One-to-one tutoring at a mutually convenient time will occur in a work site, program site, or other neutral public place in the community that is easily accessible to learner. Tutor will not provide transportation to learner or meet at learners/tutors place of residence. Weekly sessions that is convenient for tutor and learner. One and one-half hour to two hour (1 -2 hour) sessions are recommended.
Duration : Negotiable with recommendation for 1 year commitment (9 month minimum). It is our expectation that tutoring will be so rewarding that a tutor will wish to continue beyond this commitment. Orientation and a pre-service basic literacy workshop (12 hours) required. Participation in periodic in-service training sessions encouraged.

Mission Statement
Read To Succeed improves lives in Rutherford County by offering free literacy programs and events for adults and children. Read To Succeed supports this mission by fostering literacy partnerships between providers, educators, community helpers and business owners, creating events and programming to promote literacy and providing resources such as the Literacy Center and this website.
Description
Read To Succeed was established in the summer of 2003. Paul Vaughan, Managing Director of the Jennings and Rebecca Jones Foundation, met with professionals who were involved in literacy programs in Murfreesboro. He offered the Foundation's resources as support to a new community literacy initiative and this group of dedicated educators, social workers, agency directors, community helpers and volunteers became the Read To Succeed Council. This community partnership was created to promote reading in Rutherford County, with emphasis on family literacy. Read to Succeed sponsors Reading in the Schools Day, Unplug and Read, Read To Bee, and Reader Training as part of its community initiative.
