About SE Works

Location:

6927 SE Foster Rd., Portland, OR 97206, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to strengthen the economic health and well being of our diverse southeast Portland community by increasing access to employment, educational, and supportive services.

Description

Established in 1997, SE Works provides employment, training, and workforce development services primarily to assist low-income adults and youth in achieving their educational and employment goals. We offer a variety of classes to help people with resumes, cover letters, basic computer skills, interview skills, and job readiness skills. We have staff members who work with customers to help them with not only job seeking, but also basic life skills. In 2004, SE Works created the Community Learning Center (CLC) in response to the community's overwhelming demand for basic skills classes, GED preparation, and English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction. Since its inception, the CLC has provided basic skills classes, including ESL and GED preparation to 119 students. Approximately half of the students are youth earning GEDs; the other half are adults seeking to earn GEDs, increase English language skills, or upgrade basic skills to obtain employment or enter training programs.
