Advocate for abused and neglected children as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas or Clark Counties.
When a CASA is court appointed to a case, he or she becomes the one person in the foster child’s life who will be there from when the case opens to when it successfully closes.
The CASA is responsible for gathering as much information, and coordinating as many elements as possible, in order to secure for each child a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible.
As a CASA, you will: visit the child or children regularly, review records, interview parents and relatives, consult with teachers, neighbors and foster care providers, and work closely with community service providers. You will advocate for the children and families to gain access to needed support and services. And you will appear in court to advocate on behalf of the child’s needs and best interests.
Your role as a CASA requires a strong dedication to children, some daytime flexibility, creativity in problem solving, the ability to be objective, and above all, a desire to make a real difference in your community.
After a 30 hour training course, our volunteers are sworn in by a judge and empowered to advocate on behalf of children as a legal party to the case. CASAs must be 21 or over and pass a background check. They also need to make an 18 month commitment (or until the case is closed).
If you are in Multnomah or Washington County, go to our website for more information: casahelpskids.org
In Clackamas or Clark counties, contact should be made through this advertisement.
