The Arthritis Foundation (AF) seeks volunteers to serve on its Walk to Cure Arthritis Planning Committee (AWPC).
COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES
The AWPC will provide direction and guidance to the staff event coordinator on major decisions and considerations for the event. This group is instrumental in creating relationships between AF and new sponsors, team captains, participants and in-kind donors.
Committee members should be willing to provide open feedback, initiate new relationships and promote the organization.
OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE
Team Recruitment Chair and Committee - Recruits leaders from the corporate, small business, medical, educational, and social communities and encourage them to form Walk teams. Serves as contact to Team Captains throughout pre-event process.
- Sponsorship Chair and Committee- Identifies needs and recruits prospective in-kind sponsors in the community.
- Public Relations Chair and Committee -Responsible for pro-active public relations and marketing efforts to increase awareness and brand identity of the Arthritis Walk and the Arthritis Foundation. With input and assistance from AF staff, develops an Arthritis Walk marketing plan.
- Logistics Chair and Committee - Responsible for ensuring all aspects of walk day are planned, coordinated and efficiently run. Event day components include - event set up and breakdown, tent and sponsor booth arrangements, marking and managing the walk route, event day security, permits, etc. Will coordinate with Event Volunteer Chair and Committee to assign tasks to day of volunteers.
- Volunteer Recruitment Chair and Committee - Identifies needs for volunteers at event site, and leads recruitment efforts for volunteer team. Leads volunteer trainings and check in at event, and ensures all tasks are covered and well managed.

Description
The Arthritis Foundation Northern California Office:
- partners with community organizations to provide people with arthritis access to evidence-based physical activity programs (aquatic exercise, land-based exercise, tai chi & walking)
- offers free educational seminars & patient education brochures
- provides support and activities for children with Juvenile Arthritis & their families
- referrals to local rheumatologists, support groups
- funds arthritis research both locally and nationally
- provides physicians with continuing medical education in the form of the annual Knowles Lecture
- offers the Summer Science Intership Program which provides top-notch HS juniors and seniors & college frosh & sophomores the ability to work in arthritis research at UCSF & Stanford.
