SOAR Guides provide visitors with an enthusiastic, interactive learning experience and help with
the core operational activities of SOAR (Butterfly Pavilion and surrounding area).
Volunteers will participate in training to learn about butterfly species and their importance to the
environment, as well as learn customer service and interpretation skills. Volunteers ensure
everyone’s safety in the pavilion (including the butterflies!), and encourage visitors to stop by the
emergence chamber outside the pavilion to see butterflies emerge from their chrysalides.

We are currently recruiting volunteers for this exhibit opening May 1, 2024. Two trainings are required prior to signing up for shifts: Basic Training (Garden history and policies, volunteer program introduction, informal education techniques) and SOAR Guide Training (Butterfly basics, pavilion operations, interpretation techniques). Please email volunteer@southcoastbotanicgarden.org for more information on how to join our program and become a SOAR Guide!
