ORGANIZATION: Comfort Zone Camp

  • 20 people are interested

Comfort Zone Camp is in need of at least 8 mental health professionals per camp session to facilitate our support groups, called Healing Circles. Our Healing Circle Leaders are required to participate in the full weekend session from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon.

During our camp sessions our "Little Buddy" campers meet in small groups called Healing Circles (SM), along with their "Big Buddy" volunteer counselors. We typically have 8 Healing Circles at each camp and need psychologists, social workers, or others with training and expertise in child therapy group facilitation to lead these groups. We provide a thorough training program and the opportunity to shadow an experienced Healing Circle Leader prior to facilitating a group alone. Please consider volunteering your skills and talents to provide grieving children with a voice, a place, and a community in which to heal, grow and lead more fulfilling lives. Please contact Jessi Schmale jschmale@comfortzonecamp.org or by telephone at (804)377-3430.

Mission Statement

Comfort zone provides grieving children with a voice, a place and a community in which to heal, grow and lead more fulfilling lives.

Description

Comfort Zone Camp is the nation's largest bereavement camp. Comfort Zone Camps are offered free of charge to children ages 7-17 who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or primary caregiver. The weekend camps are held year-round in Virginia, New Jersey, California, North Carolina and Massachusetts as well as partnership camps in several other states.

Comfort Zone Camps create an environment where grieving children can have fun and break the isolation death often brings, while learning valuable coping skills for their daily lives. All camp programs are free of charge.
