FREE TRAINING -- Be prepared for any emergency. The Palatine Emergency Management Agency offers the federal CERT Training Class (Community Emergency Response Team) on a regular basis. Learn how to help yourself, friends, family, and community after a disaster. This free 20 hour course will teach you basic disaster preparedness, light search and rescue, fire safety, disaster medical operations, and organization of CERT volunteer teams. This is a hands-on course that concludes with a simulated disaster drill at the final class. Optional follow-up training will enable you to work alongside first responders in the event of an emergency or disaster in Palatine. Classes are held over a 2-3 week period in the Emergency Operations Center at Village Hall, 200 E. Wood Street , Palatine .

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Palatine Emergency Management Agency to provide the highest level of emergency services to its residents and visitors by identifying hazards and vulnerabilities within its corporate limits and by mitigating the effects of, preparing for, responding to and recovering from emergencies and disasters whether natural or manmade. Palatine EMA prides itself in providing ongoing training in emergency preparedness to its staff and to its residents understanding that an educated and trained public is paramount in lessening the effects a disaster may have on our community.

Description

Everyone can do something to help make our families and our communities safer through:


Personal responsibility: Developing a household preparedness plan and disaster supplies kits, observing home health and safety practices, implementing disaster mitigation measures, and participating in crime prevention and reporting.


Training:
Taking classes in emergency preparedness, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), sheltering, damage assessment, first aid, CPR, severe weather spotting and other unique opportunities.


Volunteer service:
Engaging individuals in volunteer activities that support first responders, disaster relief groups, and community organizations. Everyone can do something to support the four stages of emergency management: prevention, mitigation, response and recovery efforts. EMA volunteers work directly with village staff to update and monitor the effectiveness of the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).


Becoming involved with your Palatine Emergency Management Agency helps to create the groundwork for the long-term preparedness and safety of our neighborhood.
