Make a difference with B.A.B.E.S.

Beginning Awareness Basic Education Studies (BABES) is a primary prevention program designed to give children a lifetime of protection from substance abuse.

BABES assists young people in developing positive living skills through providing them with accurate, non-judgmental information about the use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs. This helps children gain a better understanding on how to protect themselves from alcohol and chemically-dependent situations, along with other forms of abuse or risk behaviors.

The B.A.B.E.S. volunteers use puppets to provide accurate information presented in a manner designed to gain the attention of children and to enable them to develop good decision-making skills.

Subject titles for the program are Self-image and Feelings, Decision Making and Peer Pressure, Coping Skills, Alcohol and Other Drug Information, Getting Help, and Helping Children from Chemically-Dependent Homes.

The sessions are 7 weeks along, 2-3 hours a week during the school year.

Description

Make a Difference in Your Community

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
