Head Start
This is a Head Start program that serves Native American children on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation ages 3-5.
Volunteers spend time with children in all aspects of programing. They teach social skills by joing the children at meal and snack time. They play with the children, read books to them, rock them in the rocking chair, help them with hand washing and brushing their teeth, teach them to play together in harmony, and general assistance in daily activities.
An hourly stipend and other benefits are provided for volutneers.

Description
The Foster Grandparent Program is based out of Sturgis, South Dakota and currently covers 14 counties in western SD (Bennett, Butte , Custer, Fall River , Haakan, Harding, Jackson, Lawrence, Meade, Mellette, Pennington, Perkins, Shannon and Todd) .
We place income eligible senior citizens (age 55 and over) with children in settings such as elementary schools, head starts, child care centers, pre-school programs, and after school programs to do volunteer work with children. Foster Grandparent volunteers serve an average of 20 hours per week (can do 15-40 hours per week) and, in turn, receive an hourly tax-free stipend, transportation reimbursement or assistance, paid orientation & training, paid holidays, earn vacation & sick leave, site provided meal (when available), supplemental accident and personal liability insurance, annual recognition, companionship with fellow seniors, and the fulfillment of fostering hope in the eyes of a child!
