Youth Mentoring Service is a prevention program that enables in-risk children and youth, ages 7-19, to achieve their full potential as adults by providing services including: professionally supervised mentor relationships, topic and age-appropriate developmental in-services, summer camperships, and various other youth initiatives.
COMMUNITY BASED: Volunteers are 18 years of age or older, live or work in Niagara County and are mature, responsible citizens. After a thorough screening and training process, volunteers are matched with a child to serve as a friend, mentor and positive adult role model. The commitment is twice monthly for 3-4 hours each outing, for a minimum of one years time. Outings consist of ordinary life activities, such as going to the park, grocery shopping, bowling, or anything a Mentor and Mentee would like to do together.
SITE BASED: Site Based volunteers meet with youth Wednesday afternoons, 3:30-5:30, at the Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club for group mentoring initiative.
Following an orientation and screening, you will meet on a consistent basis with a group of children at the Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club. You will work with staff to plan and conduct in-services for a group of children and youth that teaches life skills, including Self-Esteem, Cultural Enrichment, Financial Literacy, How to be a Healthy You, Anger Management, Child Safety, Teambuilding, and Social Assets.

Mission Statement
Youth Mentoring Services of Niagara County, Inc. (YMS), seeks to address the needs of in-risk children and youth between the ages of 7-19 and their families by providing unique professionally supervised Mentoring relationships and activities with adult volunteer Mentor role models. It is the intent of the Board of Directors, staff and Mentors to work diligently to provide a professionally supervised and nurturing match relationship for each and every child and youth Mentee who requests a Mentor.
Description
Youth Mentoring Services of Niagara County is the only youth focused Agency that serves children of both gender, county-wide, with no fee for service or dues assessed. YMS depends solely on community support to further its Mission. YMS works collaboratively and cooperatively with several Agencies and Organizations on community initiatives to better serve the children active with the Agency.
