We know - times are tough and we’re all adapting to the changes every day. We know it is critically important to stay healthy and safe during this time and we miss community as much as you all do! As we continue to be patient and cautious about in-person gatherings, our environment still needs us! We have found a way to bring us all together to make a positive impact on Your Neighborhood, Our Environment - virtually!

As an adjustment to our typical cleanup events, we are excited to transition the 18 th Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup to a virtual cleanup! On Saturday June 20 th, we invite you to get outside, stay close to your home, and collect litter throughout the streets of your neighborhood. By joining forces with I Love A Clean San Diego and getting out in your local community to remove trash- virtually together and physically apart - you can support your neighborhood and protect our San Diego watersheds while keeping safe. Many small cleanup efforts close to home during the Creek to Bay Cleanup leaves a lasting impact. Imagine if everyone person in San Diego County collected just one pound of litter in one day! That’s over three million pounds of pollution stopped from entering our waterways and ocean. No matter where you live in San Diego County, every gutter, street, parking lot, park, canyon and beach is in one of the county’s 11 watersheds. The health of these systems means healthier creeks and ocean for all of us. We urge everyone to join our on live broadcast on Saturday from 9AM-10AM via Facebook Live @iloveacleansd to hear more about the event, the importance of removing litter, cleanup best practices, and more! Then, go outside at any point during the day to clean up your community for as long as you can volunteer.

STEPS TO GET INVOLVED:

  1. Head to CreektoBay.org for information. Here you can register for the "Virtual Creek to Bay Cleanup" - You will create or login to your volunteer profile on our new "Community Hub"! Once registered, you will receive an email confirming your registration and provide you with next steps.
  2. Get ready! - Gather cleanup supplies (put those plastic grocery bags under your sink and gardening or cleaning gloves to use!), and spread the word to other households. Check your email for full requirements and details on how to prepare. If you have a spare jar or bucket lying around, check out how you can join our zero waste contests here.
  3. Go outside and clean up! - Head outside to pick up trash around your block in your neighborhood, at your local park, beach, or trail - don’t forget to remain at a safe social distance from your neighbors and wear a face-covering or mask! Groups of people that do not live in the same house, even if socially distancing, should not be a part of this virtual event. Join us LIVE at 9AM for a cleanup kickoff with featured guests on Facebook @iloveacleansd. Take pride in cleaning your local neighborhood while staying connected to the larger impact of community members cleaning up all over San Diego County - virtually together, physically apart.
  4. Separate your trash and recyclables - As you’re cleaning up, be sure to separate out your trash and recyclables. By properly separating, we’re enhancing our recycling knowledge and supporting the recycling system. When you finish up collecting, use your bins at home to dispose of trash. Stay tuned for your cleanup guidelines for how to separate properly!
  5. Share your accomplishments - Tell us how you did! Report back your totals after you finish the cleanup through provided links to the Volunteer Impact Map. By sharing, we can see the impact we made working together throughout the county!

There is no better way to celebrate the first day of summer in the beautiful San Diego County! We look forward to seeing you out there and thank you for choosing to make an impact on our region!
