Reading is a key to success in education and in life. The America Reads Initiative calls on all Americans to help ensure that every child can read well and independently by the end of third grade. Volunteers make a difference in the lives of children through encouragement.
Volunteers assist children one-on-one who are having reading difficulties in their current grade level. Volunteers serve as mentors, tutors and reading buddies but most of all become a good friend and some one that will give encouragement and lend an ear to listen when the child/children talks to them.
Terms: Site is handicapped accessible, Volunteer must be at least 55 years of age
Other Information Requested of Volunteers: Complete RSVP enrollment form & criminal background check.

Make a Difference in Your Community!
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
