CMPSA (a MA non-profit public charitable corporation), located in central Massachusetts, has been assigned respectable duties to provide valuable resources in the daily operations of the 48th Annual Fitchburg Longsjo Classic bike race located in Fitchburg. CMPSA staff & supervisors are looking for volunteers for the following positions:

• TWO-WAY RADIO COMMUNICATIONS SERVICES : Our Communications Group is responsible for engineering, deployment & operations of the $35,000 radio system infrastructure including Rapid Deployment Portable VHF Repeaters, mobiles & hand-held portable radio caches to be distributed to 110 daily race staff. A radio incident command dispatcher will handle all the radio traffic. VOLUNTEER REQUEST: assist with radio system setup and mobile & portable radio daily check-out & check-in. Radio dispatchers with experience also welcome.

• EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PLAN : Upper level management has partnered with local public safety officials and CMPSA will be part of their unified command center handling race operations logistics of emergencies. VOLUNTEER REQUEST: assist CMPSA supervisors & race staff with logistical support services in coorporation with the emergency plan-of-action procedures delegated by CMPSA.

• MARSHALLING SERVICES : Fitchburg Longsjo - race operations committee, in accordance with USAC safety guidelines, have "marshals". A marshal is someone who is assigned a location along the bike route that their presence with an orange safety vest assists the race staff & CMPSA in offering general public safety assistance to the riders and the spectators. Whether it is warning motor vehicle traffic not to drive onto the race course or warning riders of a pothole or bike accident, etc. VOLUNTEER REQUEST: Race operations staff is still looking for volunteers to perform marshalling. You would report directly to CMPSA supervisors and/or the marshalling coordinator. You will be assigned a location given a portable radio, safety vest, safety flag & a whistle. Training provided if needed. Marshall Staffing Needed: Thur=20, Fri=40, Sat=50 and Sun=24.

• PUBLIC SAFETY COORDINATION SERVICES : CMPSA will be the liaison between local public safety officials and will be in charge of daily race operations. Additional manpower is needed to work in partnership with assisting local public safety, including several on-site ambulances and dozens of police officers located throughout the course on a daily basis. VOLUNTEER REQUEST: Individuals to be part of the incident command system (ICS) infrastructure and oversee certain responsibilities of daily race operations.

Volunteers may be teenagers or adults or groups of people. No experience is required and any of the positions but experience would be a great benefit.

The Fitchburg Longsjo event runs from Thursday, June 28th through Sunday, July 1st. Thursday is a biking time trial only. Friday through Sunday - each day is a seperate race in a different geographic location. Volunteers are not required to sign up for all four (4) days, it can be 1 day or multiple days - what ever you wish to volunteer for.

All volunteers will be provided lunch (free of charge) on a daily basis provided to CMPSA's personnel. On race days, the first bike race typically starts between 8:15-9am and the last group of those days finish around 7pm. It will be a long day but we plan to rotate volunteers on shifts. This bike race is simply amazing and the crowd goes wild a lot of times. Last year we had the opportunity to watch & view bicyclists from other countries race in the Longsjo. Each race there is an announcer/disc jockey with music to help time pass by during the day.
