Are you affected by the world conflict that you see on the news, and do you want to do something about it? Do you want to help welcome newly arrived people to the United States? Refugee Immigration Ministry (RIM), an interfaith organization based in Malden, works with congregations and community groups to form "Clusters," which offer social services to newly arrived individuals seeking asylum. Clusters are always seeking new congregations and individual volunteers to be involved.

The clients that Clusters work with come mostly from African countries, fleeing war and persecution in their homelands. Cluster members, along with a Case Manager from the RIM staff, work together to provide community-based support to individuals as they settle in the U.S. on the road to self-sufficiency. The merits of Clusters have been recognized by the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees and by the local mental health community.

Clusters are located in eight communities across Eastern Massachusetts. Currently, Clusters are located in Arlington, Lexington, Marblehead, Metro West (Hopkinton, Milford), Chelmsford, Metro North (Malden/Melrose/Medford), Newton, and the North Shore. For more information about joining a Cluster, please contact us at nuth.rim@verizon.net and 781-322-1011. Also, check out our Web site at www.r-i-m.net.

Mission Statement

Building Community with Uprooted People to Serve the Common Good.

Description

RIM is an Interfaith, community-based organization that was founded in 1986. RIM's programs reflect the mission: "Building Community with Uprooted People to Serve the Common Good." At the heart of RIM's 3 major programs is a corps of dedicated volunteers who bring clients into relationships with their communities. These programs include: community-based resettlement of asylum seekers; job preparation through English and computer classes; and Spiritual Care Givers who provide chaplaincy services to immigrant detainees. All programs rest upon a strong Case Management plan and offer "new life and hope to uprooted people". As one client summed it up, "You took me from nowhere to somewhere."
