The Volunteer Engagement Center is a vital part of Harvesters’ mission to mobilize the power of our community to create equitable access to nutritious food and address the root causes and impact of hunger. In this area, volunteers sort and repack food, which assists Harvesters in feeding more than 226,000 neighbors each month. Volunteer tasks are assigned based on product availability and project prioritization. Opportunities include:
- Sorting and boxing nonperishable food
- Packing fresh produce
- Sorting and boxing bread
- Repacking ready-to-eat food and bulk products
- May include refrigerated or meat products
- Packing BackSnack
Please note the following requirements:
- All volunteers must be 8 or older
- Volunteers 8-15 must have an adult chaperone
- Individual 16-18 year olds may volunteer without a chaperone
- Groups must meet the following requirements:
- 8-11 years old: 1 adult is required for every 5 children
- 12-15 years old: 1 adult is required for every 10 youth
- 16-18 years old: 1 adult is required for every 15 youth
- Bring at least two chaperones for 8-15 year olds so that the group is never unattended in the VEC.
- If you have youth in two different age groups, bring enough adults to meet the ratio for the youngest participants
- If your original number does not include adults, or does not meet the adult to child ratio, let us know your updated number of volunteers.
- Long pants and close toe and heel shoes are required.
- Volunteers wearing open shoes will not be able to serve in the Volunteer Engagement Center
- Open shoes include, but are not limited to, clogs and sandals
- Crocs must be worn with the back strap covering the heel
- Some activities may require hair nets and other food safety garments
- Volunteers wearing open shoes will not be able to serve in the Volunteer Engagement Center
- Register each person who will be volunteering
- Schedule groups of six or more by completing this form
