The English Skills Learning Center is looking for volunteers to teach adult English language learners who have a strong desire to learn English. Most of our students are at a very low level of English and for them we focus on "survival English."

We serve over five hundred students at any given time in the area, with the list of waiting students growing daily! Our services are completely free to the student and we offer our classes at times and locations that are convenient to both the volunteer and the student(s).

No previous experience or additional language skills are required. We ask our volunteers to give five hours a week: twice a week for an hour and half each to teach a class and the rest of the volunteer time is alloted for travel and preparation. Overall we ask our volunteers to commit to volunteering for a minimum of 100 hours.

We offer a comprehensive training for all of our volunteers and we provide them with all of the necessary teaching materials. After the training, volunteers can become involved in any of our current programs including:

One-on-one tutoring

Small group classes

Empowering Parents classes - teaching parents of young children English skills as well as how to become better, more involved parents.

US Citizenship preparation
