The A la Mode gift shop is the place to meet and greet residents and their families. As an associate in the gift shop, you will have the opportunity to interact casually with residents, families and staff who visit regularly. Enjoy the aroma of just-popped popcorn and freshly baked cookies as you assist shoppers with their purchases. A la Mode is open Monday through Sunday. Scheduling is flexible, and you just can't beat the 20% discount you will receive on gift items.

Purpose:

To offer a convenience to residents, family, and staff otherwise unavailable.

Accountability:

Under the direct supervision of the facility's Director of Therapeutic Recreation/Volunteer Services.

Time:

Requires one shift per week

Responsibilities:

• Arrive as scheduled, or notify supervisor when you will be late or unable to work
• Sign the Volunteer register each time you are in the facility
• Make coffee, cookies, popcorn
• Greet all residents, family, and staff
• Make sure the Veranda and coffee table are tidy
• Make sure the popcorn maker is clean
• Count cash register money
• Respond to customer concerns (written on tablet by the phone)
• Stock items on shelves

Qualifications:

• Must be comfortable working with the elderly
• Must respect and value the frail elderly
• Must be able to read/write/speak English
• Must be free from criminal record
• Must have th ability to motivate and encourage others
• Must have patients and use tact when dealing with the elderly
• Must have respect for confidence
• Must have the ability to cooperate with staff members
