The mission of the American Red Cross is to provide relief to victims of disaster and to help people prepare for, prevent, and respond to emergencies. In order to carry out that mission we recruit thousands of volunteers every year to respond to emergencies and disasters, most of them in your local neighborhoods. The ability to respond also depends on having people who are trained and ready. Each year the Red Cross trains thousands of people who can then provide consistent, quality services to people affected by disasters.

Mass Care Shelter Teams: Trained volunteers set up shelter locations throughout the community, register disaster victims, provide light snacks, soft drinks, blankets, set up cots, and issue comfort kits (soap, toothpaste, and other hygiene articles). Provide reassurance to victims. Maintain operational readiness, perform work inventory, stocking, cleaning of cots and ensure shelter site inspection survey's are up to date.

Local Disaster volunteers may be on call to respond to local emergencies during the night time 4pm - 9am. Training will be provided free of charge to all disaster volunteers.

Able and willing to complete this process:

1.Complete a Volunteer Application

2. Attend an Interview to determine how you want to help.

3. Attend a Voluinteer Orientation

4. Complete an on-line background check. This is required for all disaster nresponse volunteers.

5. View computer based training.

6. Assignment to your local disaster response team.
