Volunteer tutors help our young adult students improve their reading, math, or writing skills to prepare to take the GED.
Tutors may work one-on-one with an adult learner, or work with small groups of intermediate students.
After observing classes and participating in an volunteer orientation/training workshop, tutors are matched with a student or a group.
Tutors work with students for 1 1/2 - 2 hours a week.

Mission Statement
Greenville Literacy Association’s mission is to enrich our community by increasing the literacy and employability of our citizens.
Description
GLA was founded more than fifty years ago when a group of community leaders realized that there had to be solutions to the problem of adult under-education. Today the Association is one of the largest community-based literacy programs in South Carolina and one of the most highly developed in the nation. Hundreds of trained volunteer tutors and small group instructors are active in the agency's programs, literally changing lives in a very positive way. GLA serves the community through two earning centers in Greenville and Simpsonville, and through partnerships in Greer, West Greenville and the Berea area.
