Duties: Hawk Watch Volunteers assist in identifying hawks in flight and recording data. Contribute data to the Hawk Migration of North America (HMANA) database and send daily raptor observation reports to volunteers and Hawk Migration Distribution Lists.

Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to identify hawks in flight and record data. Must be available mid-September through October, preferably mid-week-Wednesdays and/or Thursdays.

Training workshop offered on Saturday, August 24th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM starting at the Visitor Center for part 1 and heading outdoors later in the morning for part 2. To sign up or for more information, contact volunteers@mohonkpreserve.org or call 845-255-0919, ext. 1269.

The second part will include a field trip outdoors to the Hawk Watch site. Anticipate a short, moderate hike up to Millbrook. It is much shorter (15 minutes) to take the Millbrook Ridge trail but very steep and rocky. The other option is Bayard’s path and that takes about 45 minutes and is of moderate difficulty.
