This group of specialized volunteers works directly with patients of all ages afflicted with various neurological conditions including Multiple Sclerosis, strokes, epilepsy, migraines, Parkinson's Disease, traumatic brain injury, brain tumors, and neurosurgery. The main component of the program is to provide emotional support and basic assistance with activities of daily living. Tasks include friendly visits, acting as liaisons for the patients, mobilization and mealtime assistance, and conducting recreational activities. Extensive and ongoing training provided. There are three units available for Neurology, including Critical Care/ICU and two medical/surgical units.

Program is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

Description

The Volunteer Services Department places volunteers in a variety of departments. Some assignments involve patientcontact, while others focus on clerical support.

Volunteers must make a commitment for at least 150 hours be able to work at least once a week for four hours. An extensive clearance process is required. This typically takes 8-12 weeks to complete and is not included in your 150 hour commitment. You must be at least 14 years old to volunteer.
