Description: Brethren Housing serves adults with mental illness and homeless families with children. They have a staff that is fantastic at working with and appreciating volunteers. For interns and volunteers alike, this is an ideal opportunity if you enjoy working with these two groups of people!

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

1. Provide phone answering on multi-line phone system--this involves talking with client service providers, family members, and persons looking to access services.
2. Greet and direct walk-in traffic to appropriate staff or meetings, assist with basic resident needs.
3. Take messages for staff when staff aren't available
4. Help sort donations and keep the front office area clean
5. Assist staff with food boxes and other backup that staff might need
6. When the office is not too busy, make phone calls to various service resources in the Eugene/Springfield area.
7. Drive the agency vehicle as needed for errands (requires clearance to drive).
8. Do some word-processing as needed.
9. Assist residents as needed with the laundry, mail, phone messages and other support services.
10. Help set up for monthly birthday parties as needed.
11. Other miscellaneous office duties as assigned.

IMPORTANT NOTE: this position involves mostly working with the residents of the program, as opposed to pushing paper! While there are many "errands" in this job, it would require a lot of time spent working with the program clients--adults with severe and persistent mental illness, and homeless families with children.
