ORGANIZATION: Project Hope for the Homeless

  • 9 people are interested

Keep the youngest guests and their families safe and secure while they sleep. Take turns with another volunteer from 11pm-7am in our family site.

Volunteers must be 18 or older. Two volunteers will split the shift, taking turns sleeping and watching four hours each. Guests awake at 5:45 a.m. Help them get breakfast and start their day.

Trained shelter volunteers help create a safe, caring and supportive environment for homeless shelter guests by providing assistance to the staff and giving informal support to shelter guests.

Training provided. You schedule times and dates based on our calendar. However, once a shift is assigned, the commitment is critical. There is no minimum requirement of service. Each evening there are 2 staff members.

Volunteers are additional hands, eyes and ears for the evening staff and are not expected to enforce rules or have ultimate responsibility.

Mission Statement

To respectfully and compassionately empower persons who are homeless with hope by providing emergency and transitional shelter, care and guidance together with the community. OUR VISION: To be a solution in helping persons who are homeless to thrive and reach their most abundant life, inspired by the love of Jesus.

Description

Project Hope for the Homeless is the only emergency homeless shelter in Lake County, Ohio. We are located at 25 Freedom Road in Painesville Township and have four programs, which include an overnight shelter for adults, a separate wing for families and children, an optional aftercare program, and our offsite senior care program at our Hope House.

The emergency shelter provides space for up to 50 adults and children each night, not only offering them a safe place to stay, but also giving them the basic needs and professional guidance to help them improve their quality of life. More than 80% of our guests left the shelter for a better living situation.

Every day staff and volunteers ensure the safe and efficiency of the shelter. Come join our mission!
